Who We Are

A Purpose-Built Gateway to Sitka Alaska

Situated on the rugged edge of the Pacific at the doorstep to one of Alaska’s most historic coastal communities, the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal was created with a simple goal: to provide a world-class port experience that welcomes visitors to Sitka while supporting the local community that calls this place home.
Our Story
In 2012, Sitka welcomed its first cruise ship at what was then a modest, single-berth facility. At the time, Sitka did not have a deep-water docking option for modern cruise vessels. Recognizing the growing potential for responsible cruise tourism—and the economic opportunity it could bring to the community—a local Sitka family made the decision to build what did not yet exist: a purpose-built deep-water cruise terminal for Sitka.
That decision marked the beginning of what is now the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal—a facility designed not just for ships, but for people, experiences, and long-term community benefit.
Local Ownership. Local Commitment.
Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal is a privately owned facility, operated by a local Sitka family with deep ties to Sitka and Southeast Alaska. Our ownership is hands-on, community-minded, and rooted in a long-term commitment to Sitka’s success.

Because we live here, raise our families here, and operate local businesses here, every decision we make is viewed through the lens of what is best for both our visitors and our town.
Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a first-class cruise port facility that enhances every visitor’s experience in Sitka while promoting meaningful, sustainable economic development for the local economy.

We believe great port infrastructure should:

  • Create a seamless, welcoming arrival experience
  • Support local businesses and job creation
  • Encourage authentic exploration of Sitka
  • Balance visitor access with quality of life for residents
Terminal Capabilities & Infrastructure

Today, the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal is the only deep-water cruise ship dock in Sitka, offering unmatched capacity and operational reliability.

Terminal capabilities include:

  • Two full-size berths capable of simultaneously accommodating two 1,100-foot cruise ships
  • Floating dock system, allowing ships to remain level and accessible regardless of tidal fluctuations
  • Reliable gangway access throughout the day
  • Dedicated guest services areas
  • On-site dining, shopping, tours, and experiences
  • Complimentary shuttle service to downtown Sitka
  • Home of the Alaska Odyssey Dome immersive theater
Community First, Always

We are deeply involved in the Sitka community and actively work to ensure cruise tourism benefits both visitors and residents. Our philosophy is simple: guests should experience what makes Sitka extraordinary, while those who live here continue to enjoy the community they love.

This means:

  • Supporting locally owned businesses
  • Partnering with local tour operators and artisans
  • Creating job opportunities for seasonal and year-round employees
  • Investing in infrastructure that improves visitor flow and reduces congestion
  • Continuously refining operations to balance growth with community quality of life
