Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal
Can I book a shore excursion at the terminal?
Yes, there are excursion operators at the terminal where you can book tours, including wildlife viewing, fishing charters, historical tours, and outdoor adventures. Many tours fill up quick, so it is advised to book before you arrive.
Is Wi-Fi available at the terminal?
Yes. Complimentary guest Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal for messaging, browsing, and ride confirmations.
How far is the terminal from downtown Sitka? Can I walk?
The terminal is approximately 5 miles from downtown, so walking is not recommended. However, there are beautiful coastal trails within walking distance of the dock for guests who want to explore Sitka without going to downtown.
What is the Alaska Odyssey Dome?
The Alaska Odyssey Dome is a 260-seat immersive theater located just steps from your ship. It features breathtaking films and live programming that showcase Alaska’s wildlife and landscapes—including the Alaska Raptor Experience with live bird residents from the Alaska Raptor Center. It’s a perfect all-weather activity and an unforgettable way to experience Alaska before or after your shore excursion
Where do tours meet?
Most cruise-line shore excursions depart directly from the cruise terminal. We recommend confirming your exact meeting location with your cruise line, as details can vary by tour. Some independent tour operators also pick up at the terminal, while others require guests to take the shuttle to downtown Sitka. Be sure to check with your specific tour operator in advance so you know exactly where to go on the day of your tour.
Why is a shuttle reservation required?
On busy cruise days, thousands of guests may need transportation at the same time. Shuttle reservations help manage the boarding queue, reduce congestion, and minimize wait times for everyone. By assigning guests to specific entry windows, we can keep shuttles running smoothly, maintain ADA access, and ensure a safe, comfortable experience for all visitors arriving at Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal.
What if I don't book a shuttle bus reservation?
If all shuttle reservations are booked for your preferred time, you may  use the standby line. Standby guests are boarded only after all guests with active reservations for that time slot have boarded. When space is available, standby guests are loaded on a first-come, first-served basis. During peak demand, wait times for standby may be longer, so we strongly recommend making a reservation in advance whenever possible
What if I miss my reserved shuttle time?
If you miss your reserved time, you may enter the standby line. Standby guests are boarded as space becomes available after all reserved guests for that time window have boarded.
What time should I plan to return to the terminal before boarding my ship
The last shuttle will depart downtown Sitka 30 minutes prior to your ships all aboard time.
What time zone is Sitka in
Sitka is in the Alaska Time Zone. That is Alaska Standard Time (AKST) in the winter and Alaska Daylight Time (AKDT) in the summer. Alaska is one hour behind Pacific Time. Be sure to adjust your watches and phones so you don’t miss your tours, shuttle reservations, or departure time.
